Job Description

Digital Media Specialist (WEB)

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Under general supervision, performs professional and administrative work planning, creating and managing the content on the City’s website and mobile app. This position will serve as a liaison among all departments to ensure timely, accurate information is posted to the website using the highest design standards and best practices. This position will ensure that all website features are working at the highest level of efficiency and will utilize innovative multimedia and social media tools to provide public information.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides fulltime oversight of website and mobile app content creation to keep the information accurate, timely, organized and accessible.

Works closely with City departments and divisions to assure web navigation, presentation and content are integrated with and support other City communication initiatives and reflect City editorial, graphics and other standards

Educates designated City employees in using the website content management system to design and post relevant information to the City website

Monitors and responds to citizens and follows up among departments for service requests made through the app and online

Creates and implements innovative engagement features that include notifications, alerts, e newsletters, and interactive messaging

Coordinates and creates e-marketing tools for use by departments and across media platforms

Uses multi media applications (video, photography, graphics) to create regular e-marketing newsletters and communications (internal and external) and manages subscriber lists.

Uses graphics, video and photography to create concise, visually pleasing content for the website.

Utilizes all components of the website and mobile app using best practices and makes recommendations for enhancements, changes and upgrades

RELATED FUNCTIONS:

Creates & designs multimedia projects including video, photography, print & TV web for public information and internal uses

Designs layout and creation of graphics for publications and flyers for internal & external audiences

Supports the coordination of photographic opportunities and takes photographs as required

Videotapes projects as necessary

Prepares accurate website analytics reports to capture and improve civic engagement and increase web alerts and subscriptions

Assists in preparation and dissemination of emergency information

Assists with all City social media accounts and campaigns

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Artistic ability. Interpersonal communication skills, ability to multitask and adapt as needed

Web page design and layout skills

Knowledge of best practices and skills for using all social media platforms

Knowledge of best practices related to web services development, management and communications

Skills specializing in graphic design and editing, desktop publishing, and word processing software including, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and Microsoft Office and Outlook.

Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Excellent command of grammar and the ability to write, edit and proofread for accuracy

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public relations, communications, marketing, graphic design or closely related field. Minimum two years progressive experience in implementing marketing strategies, web design or varied media projects. Strong experience in social media preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

May represent the Communications Division at emergency events and/or the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) before or after an event

Performs other related duties as required
